Montreal, North Shore

About Montreal - North Shore

The North Shore of Montreal, Quebec and Laval, Quebec are the northern shores of the Rivière des Prairies and the Rivière des Mille Îles. Suburbs to Greater Montreal, it is an area of towns and villages ranging in size from two to fifty thousand.

South of the Laurentian Mountains, the North Shore offers suburban and rural living and a centre for recreation. Located between the city and the mountains it is an area full of nature and relaxation. Once known for summer homes, this area now is a rapidly growing residential area for Montreal. Agriculture is still important and the region has dairy and cattle farms, horticultural and market garden production, orchards, maple groves and experimental agro forestry. Blainville and Sainte-Thérèse have heavy industry while Mirabel hosts Montreal-Mirabel International Airport, which handles cargo, MEDIVAC, and general aviation and is home to Bombardier Aerospace.

Different festivals and events fill each year. Music, art, dance and winter kite flying are all celebrated as are falling stars at the Festival d’astronomie de Saint-André d’Argenteuil. Come and enjoy the rich beautiful landscape, theatre, restaurants and rich heritage of Montreal’s North Shore. Public transportation is available to Laval and Montreal along AMT (Agence métropolitaine de transport) train lines and via bus.

Cross-country ski trails meander through the Laurentians offering over night ski trips between resorts. In the summer these same trails, including the 200 km long Le P’tit Train du Nord, become dedicated bicycle routes. Internationally known Mont Tremblant is one of 14 resorts offering year round fun including night skiing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, equestrian parks and golf.

Montreal’s North Shore is growing rapidly. Nature and the convenience of Montreal’s shopping and nightlife make it a wonderful place for a family home.
