About Toronto West

Toronto, the capital of the province of Ontario, is the largest city in Canada. It is the heart of the nation’s financial, commercial, industrial and cultural life, and one of the world’s most livable urban centers. With low crime rates, generally high standard living, clean environment and a multicultural diversity, Toronto is, without fail, rated one of the most popular cities to live in each year. In fact, it is one of the world’s top financial centers and because of its international and cosmopolitan population, also considered a global city.

Toronto West covers various neighbourhoods, each with their distinct characteristics and traits. Brightly painted homes as well as many shopping districts fill the Brockton Village neighbourhood. Neighbourhoods such as Bloor West Village and High Park are popular for families because of their many excellent schools. The Parkdale neighbourhood is home to tree-lined streets, affordable Victorian homes, and grandiose mansions. It is also known as one of Toronto’s liveliest shopping district and within walking distance of the waterfront parks. Some of the Canada’s multicultural communities also lie in Toronto West. Carleton Village is a working class neighbourhood populated by Asian, Portuguese and Italian families. The Earlscourt neighbourhood is distinctly known as the cultural and business center of the Italian community; and in recent years has become more and more diverse and ethnically mixed. The Swansea Village neighbourhood is the only neighbourhood in Toronto to have a river, pond and lake as its natural boundaries. Its hilly landscape and winding roads with large trees contribute to a picture-perfect home. In contrast, the Wallace Emerson and Junction Triangle neighbourhoods are a combination of industrial and residential sectors; the nearby factories provide employment opportunities for its residents.

Because of its proximity to Lake Ontario, Toronto’s climate is moderate for Canada. The city experiences four distinct seasons with warm, humid summers to cold winters. Temperatures often remain below -10°C in the winter and reach to 35°C in the summer. The spring and autumn seasons are generally mild or cold.

Toronto real estate prices tend to be high. A recent MLS Listing in 2008 showed an average selling price of $380,000 for a home in Toronto. Houses in the High Park neighbourhood start at $490,000 and in prime streets can be much higher.
