Kingston, Ontario is located at the eastern end of Lake Ontario, at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River where the Thousand Islands begin. Highway 401, north of the city, is the main access route. VIA Rail connects Kingston along its main line and Norman Rogers Airport has regular service to Toronto. Kingston Transit provides local municipal bus service.

Historic architecture, beautiful scenery and the exciting events associated with a vibrant artistic community give Kingston a magnetic attraction. With sizzling nightlife, local bistros and theatres, museums and galleries, there’s much to do in Kingston. The contemporary arts scene fills the Agnes Etherington Art Centre and Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre in the downtown area. Live music and theatre are alive and well thanks to the many venues. The city is host to numerous festivals including the Limestone City Blues Festival, the Kingston Canadian Film Festival, and the Kingston Sheep Dog Trails.

Kingston is home to of two universities. Queen's University is one of Canada’s oldest universities and the Royal Military College of Canada is Canada's largest military university. Kingston also has St. Lawrence College,a major community college.

Famous for sailing and major regattas, including the Canadian Olympic-training Regatta, Kingston is listed among top racing venues in North America. Kingston has easy access to Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River, and the Thousand Islands. With some of the best fresh water ship wrecks in the world, Kingston is a diving destination. The Kingston area is well known for its fine golf courses. The Kingston Golf Club, established in 1884, and the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club, one of Canada's top courses, are legendary. The Royal Kingston Curling Club and the Kingston Panthers Rugby Football Club provide additional sporting entertainment.
