Guelph is located in the southwestern part of the province of Ontario, 100 kilometers west of downtown Toronto. It has a population of approximately 115,000.

Known as the Royal City, Guelph is famous for its rich architectural heritage, variety of musical festivals, and its vibrant cultural life. Guelph has around 1,100 acres of parks full of trails and outdoor adventure. In addition, there are many well known recreational, arts and cultural facilities. A stroll along the streets of downtown Guelph is filled with many historic buildings, some over a century old. Guelph Lake has over 1,608 hectares of recreation area, with a special concert area on an island in the middle of the lake and two beaches that provide non-motorized boating adventures and excellent fishing. The University of Guelph Arboretum, is also a sight to visit with the family with its beautiful trails. The Macdonald Steward Art Centre provides Guelph with temporary exhibitions of both historical and contemporary art, design, and craft drawn from both local and international sources. Guelph is renowned for its indie rock scene and is the origin of many of Canada’s famous indie rock bands. Music in general plays a large role in the cultural life of Guelph residents.
