Burnaby, British Columbia is located east of Vancouver BC, north of the Fraser River and south of the Burrard Inlet at the geographical centre of the Metro Vancouver. New Westminster, British Columbia lays south of Burnaby and north of the Fraser River.

New Westminster is home to Stylus College of Music and Sound Technology, Douglas College, one of the largest public colleges in British Columbia, and the Justice Institute of British Columbia, a public institution that focuses on training professionals in the justice, public safety and social services fields.

Major technology firms base their operations in the area. Heavy industry and petroleum refineries are on the shores of Burrard Inlet. Brunaby and New Westminster also feature high technology research and business parks, movie and TV studios and industrial estates.

The Greater Vancouver climate holds true for Burnaby. Summer temperatures average between 15 C and 18 C. Winter is mild with temperatures averaging between 3.6 C and 6.2 C.

Both Burnaby and New Westminster have access to the SkyTrain, Trans-Canada Highway and Canada Way. Burnaby has developed a network of cycling trails and is well served by Greater Vancouver's bus system TransLink.

Burnaby is largely urban with agricultural land in the Big Bend neighbourhood. New Westminster is the oldest incorporated city in British Columbia.
