The area economy focuses on providing services to the many people who come to enjoy the wonderful boating on Lake Okanagan in the summer and winter skiing at two large ski resort located in the area. Vineyards and wine making abound as the area south of the city is ideal. Kelowna is also home to Sun-Rype, Canada’s largest fruit-based food and beverage manufacturer.

Okanagan College, with an enrollment of over 5,000, provides post secondary and vocational education and is the second largest such institution in British Columbia. University of British Columbia offers classes in undergraduate Engineering and Management with graduate programs in most academic departments.
