Vancouver is BC’s largest city and ranked as one of the most livable cities in the world. Victoria, located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, is the provincial capital of British Columbia. The greater Victoria area has a population of more than 354,000, which includes a large retiree population drawn to the region's mild climate and year-round golf season.
British Columbia offers amazing diversity in culture, ecology and geography, and is know for its spectacular scenery. The coastal areas, including Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, feature temperate forests, ocean beaches, and stunning scenery. Much of inland British Columbia is mountainous, from coastal mountain ranges to the continental divide. BC contains 14 national parks and protected areas combined, one of which includes Yoho National Park. There’s plenty of outdoor adventure for everyone including river-rafting on the Fraser, whale watching at Victoria, skiing at Whistler Resort, and kayaking around the Gulf Islands just to name a few. BC is famous for its recreation and vacation opportunities, including boating, hiking, skiing, hunting, fishing and mountaineering. Yet BC also offers world class exhibitions and fine wine and dining possibilities. In addition, there is a wide variety of shopping opportunities from high fashion trends in Vancouver to British goods in Victoria, a pedestrian-only Whistler with its boutiques, not to mention numerous selections of Aboriginal handmade products throughout the province.
