Grande Prairie, Alberta is located in northwestern Alberta, 455 km northwest of Edmonton, near the British Columbia border. Grande Prairie is at the southern edge of Peace River Country and surrounded by Grande Prairie County.
Grande Prairie is the main city in northwestern Alberta. Public transportation is available in the city and Greyhound Canada service outside of the city. Highway 43 is the main route into the Grande Prairie and meets Highway 2 just north of the city. Highway 40 provides access from the south.
